It is renowned for its **exceptional wear resistance**, high compressive strength, and good dimensional stability during heat treatment. Classified under the AISI D2 grade, it offers a significant performance upgrade over oil-hardening grades like O1 for demanding applications involving high abrasion, long production runs, or close-tolerance tooling. Its air-hardening characteristic results in minimal distortion, making it suitable for intricate and large cross-section tools. Latrobe LSS™ D2 is designed for applications where service life and resistance to wear are the primary concerns, justifying its slightly more complex machinability and grinding requirements. --- ### **1.
